Clindamycin

Generic Name: Clindamycin

Commercial Names: Cleocin 75mg, 150 mg, 300 mg.

Mechanism of Action

Inhibits Bacterial protein synthesis(Gram+ve Cocci and Anaerobes).

Indications

  • Treatment of severe infection caused by anaerobic bacterias.
  • Adjunct to treatment of adult refractory periodontitis and acute osteomylitis.
  • Alternative prophylactic antibiotic for dental patients allergic to penicillin and erythromycin and unable to take oral medicine.
  • Alternative to penicillin and erythromycin for treating orofacial infections.

Warnings/Precautions/Contraindication

Pseudomembraneous colitis reported.

Adverse Drug Reactions

Abdominal pain, nausea, vomitting, diarhhoea.
