Learn effective communication skills to communicate with dental patients.
Right from the moment the patient enters the dentist's office, during treatment,
or diagnosis the communication between the dentist and the patient plays an important
role in the successful outcome of the dental treatment. Here are some important
points to be kept in mind.
- Be pleasant. Take care of the patient's comfort.
-
Be confident while talking - do not hide, lie or stammer while conversing with the
patient.
-
Maintain eye contact - If a patient has come with her family to see you, try to
involve other members in the conversation.
-
Avoid distractions like taking any phone calls while talking to your patient.
- Respect the patients individuality.
-
Do not laugh at or ignore any apprehensions of your patients, or their family members.
-
Even if you are delegating a task to some of your auxiliary staff, just a casual
"How are you feeling" gesture while your colleague does the work will comfort your
patient.
-
Follow up: After accomplishing a particular dental treatment or a dental surgical
procedure, do follow up with your patient.
